Instrument Making Project

Date: October 6, 2013 Author: Naomi Haugen Categories: 1 - 2, 3 - 4, 5 - 6, Pre-K / K, Teachers 1

As they explore music from Asia, students are learning about traditional instruments of  Japan, China, India, and Korea.  (We began this exploration on October 1 and 3 by watching video of Koto players from Japan.

To further understand concepts of sound production and instrument construction, students in PreK through Grade 6 will be constructing simple instruments during class time.  Older children will be able to play simple tunes on the instruments they create.

For this project:

Each student needs to bring an empty tissue box to school.  We will begin the project during the week of November 5 and 7.  Please send empty boxes with your child between now and then.  Extras are welcome!  All boxes will be stored in the music cupboard until we are ready to use them.

Thanks for your saving your boxes!
