Carnival of the Animals

Date: March 1, 2016 Author: Naomi Haugen Categories: 1 - 2 0

This week the students in Grades 1 – 2 completed a series of music lessons focused on “The Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saens. They have developed very good listening skills and can identify each animal’s music almost immediately.  To reinforce their learning, they have developed characteristic movements for each animal, watched a video that presents the music through puppetry, and drawn their own illustrations for each animal. Check your child’s backpack for the illustrations and ask him or her to describe the project to you!

The music for “The Carnival of the Animals” can be easily found on the internet. Your son or daughter will enjoy playing a guessing game with you to show how well they know the music. Play the tunes in mixed-up order and be impressed!

The HACIL library owns several illustrated versions of “The Carnival of the Animals,” with CD included.

Have fun with this music!
